About this event

MOCACREATE: Journey to the West Shadow Stories with Teaching Artist Yu Rong at Museum of Chinese in America, New York.

Step into the magical world of Ed Young’s classic folktales through shadow puppetry! Explore three beloved stories from Journey to the West— Birth of the Monkey King, Dragon King’s Palace, and The White Bone Demon. Create your own shadow puppet inspired by the Monkey King, aka Sun Wukong, and other mythical characters from this classic legend. Bring them to life through light, movement, and storytelling.

Paint, build, craft, and collage with us! Inspired by the museum’s exhibitions and local artists, MOCACREATE explores different themes every month. MOCACREATE workshops are designed with families in mind, but all are welcome!

Free with admission! RSVP appreciated. MOCA Members should enter their promo code to access complimentary tickets. NYC residents can purchase pay-what-you wish tickets online or with our Visitor Services team.
