About this event
How could a virtual platform help predict an individual’s glucose response before a change in diet, activity, or treatment is made?
On November 12, Larissa Calancie, PhD will present her work developing a predictive glucose simulation platform that uses physiologically based modeling to forecast how food intake, beverages, and physical activity influence blood glucose levels.
The platform has the potential to be personalized using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and behavioral data, creating a virtual environment where individuals and clinicians can evaluate “what-if” scenarios related to diet, exercise, and treatment strategies. A key focus of Calancie’s work is adapting the platform to model glucose dynamics during pregnancy, addressing the unique metabolic changes associated with maternal health and gestational diabetes—an area that remains underserved by existing digital health and decision-support tools.

Why attend?
- Learn how Tufts research is being translated into physiologically based modeling that can be used to forecast glucose responses to food, beverages, and physical activity.
- Explore how CGM and behavioral data could support a more personalized virtual simulation platform.
- Discuss potential applications in precision health, maternal health, and gestational diabetes.
- Engage with Tufts researchers and members of the LabCentral community through discussion, networking, and feedback. Lunch will be provided.
Big ideas. Early stage. Real potential.
